Weird Geese Migration and Bird PopulationsAugust 24, 2005
Oh Steve,
Your show in the story of the Copperheads reminded me to tell you this one.
On August 22, I was mowing in the back yard, when I looked up and to my
amazement I observed flocks of geese flying around in circles near
Bellevue, NE and Council Bluffs, IA. I thought that they were circling
Base Lake, but they took off toward the east and disappeared, They didn't
even land at Lake Manawa in Council Bluffs. FLOCKS OF GEESE!!!!...IN
AUGUST!!!! You don't see flocks of geese like this in August! I've lived
in the same place for 35 years in Bellevue, and have never seen a sight
like this, not until late September and October. It was an extremely weird
sight. Could it be a shift in earth magnatism?
Also, the robins are disappearing more and more every year. When I moved
to where I currently am in 1970, robins were everywhere at least 8 or 9 to
a yard, now your lucky to see 2 every few blocks or so! Wood ducks have
never been west of the Mississippi, (according to the Nebraska Games and
Parks Commission), when in 2000 they began showing up in droves. The
starlings that used to breed 6 to 7 chicks per family, now are breeding no
more than 1 or 2. Grackels are also fewer and fewer with their breeding
also. Seagulls...SEAGULLS are becoming more numerous every year as well
over Omaha. I've heard from so-called experts that seagulls will show up
here every Spring for migrating. WHAT!!! Migrate to what in the Great
Plains!!!! HORSEHOCKEY!!! They are showing up more and more like
crazy!!!!
